Koko was one of the 152 dogs rescued from the recent hoarding case in Ogden. When she came into my care, she was just 5 pounds, 2 ounces—fragile, fearful, and unfamiliar with human kindness. Over time, she began to trust, finding comfort in gentle touches and quiet companionship. She slept beside me every night, gradually embracing the love she had long been denied.
Tragically, Koko passed away following her spay surgery. I believe that generations of inbreeding left her too weak to recover. Her loss is a stark reminder of the deep, lasting impact of neglect and the urgent need for systemic change.
Koko's story is not just about sorrow; it's a call to action. We must advocate for stronger animal welfare laws and support efforts to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need. Koko deserved a full life of love and safety. In her memory, let's work to ensure that other animals receive the care and compassion they deserve.
